About Physical Education
At Key Stage 3 (years 7-9) learners build on the skills, knowledge and understanding acquired at Key Stage 2 in their primary school.
Throughout their compulsory Physical Education lessons learners study a range of activities seeking to develop their skills, knowledge and understanding of physical education. Areas of experience covered include health fitness and well-being, creative activities and competitive activities.
The following sports and games are undertaken by learners during their five years at Bishop Hedley:
BOYS – Team Games – Rugby, Cricket, Football. Badminton, Athletics, Rounders/Baseball. Circuit Training. Health-Related Fitness and Wellbeing.
GIRLS – Team Games – Netball, Trampolining, Volleyball. Badminton, Dance, Athletics, Rounders/Baseball. Health-Related Fitness and Wellbeing.
At GCSE level, in years 10 and 11, learners study the following topics:
- Practical sport
- Physical Fitness
- Factors affecting participation, provision and performance
- How to assess and evaluate physical fitness
- Effects of training
- Nutrition
- How we learn skills
- Psychological factors influencing performance
Those students following the BTEC Sport syllabus in Years 10 and 11 study the following topics during the course: Health and Fitness for Sport and Exercise, Practical Sport, Leading Sports Activity and Training for Personal Fitness.
