Mrs Mackie Wins “Secondary Teacher of the Year” Award

Mrs Lauren Mackie, head of English, scooped an inspirational teaching accolade at a national awards ceremony. Mrs Mackie attended the Inspirational Teaching Awards at the Mercure Holland House Hotel in Cardiff in June.

Mrs Mackie, who has been teaching at the school for eight years, is also a former pupil of the school and studied English at Swansea University.

The awards evening saw 11 professionals from schools and colleges across Wales honoured by colleagues, parents and pupils with more than 150 nominations. Speaking after the event, Mrs Mackie said: “I’m really, really, shocked. I wasn’t expecting it at all. I feel really honoured to have been put forward for something like this. It’s not about me – it’s about the past pupils that I’ve taught and the current pupils who just make the job easy. They make it fun. I feel honoured and humbled.”

Mrs Harris, Headteacher, said: We were delighted to see Lauren get the recognition she deserves for herself, her team and the school. It is a reflection of her hard work and commitment to her profession. Lauren’s planning and teaching is first-class. Perhaps the best testament we can pay to her is the amount of former pupils who have gone on to teach.”

Congratulations Lauren!
